Wilderness is situated on the banks of the Touws river estuary and nestles in the foothills of the majestic Outeniqua Mountains.

The Wilderness National Park is an eco tourist paradise with a spellbinding beauty and a blissful peace. It takes in lakes, rivers lagoons, forests fynbos and the sea.

Knysna louries glide through the forests, eagles soar in the skies above and giant kingfishers skim across the lake in search of prey. Not surprisingly bird watchers are in their element here.

choose from. Apart from ferns and orchids, there is always a chance of spotting a bontebok, a bushbuck or a Cape clawless otter.

Wilderness and local areas host some very interesting craft markets, where you can taste the home grown delicacies and buy many unusual gifts.

Dolphin Point
At least 37 species of whales and dolphins can be found in the coastal waters off South Africa and Dolphin point provides one of the best viewpoints for watching them anywhere along the Garden Route. Be prepared particularly for encounters with Southern Right and Humpback whales and several dolphin species.

George and Sport
Wilderness Accommodation | Garden Route Accommodation | Self Catering | Wilderness | Route 62 | Western CapeGeorge is the largest town of the garden route, nestling beneath the magnificent Outeniqua mountains range; it is surrounded by a remarkable blend of rivers, rich farmlands, forests and wild flowers.

Scenery is a major attribute of the town, closely followed by its outstanding sports facilities. Playing a round of golf at George golf club, with its lush fairways, its great variety of trees, flowers and the famous George heather, is a bit like rambling through a carefully tended park.

From every aspect of the course the mountains can be seen. Incidentally Outeniqua is derived from a Khoi word meaning “people carrying bags of honey”. Early travellers noted mountain slopes of heather swarming with bees.

George is a haven for world ranking golf courses, some existing and more being constructed.

Wilderness Accommodation | Garden Route Accommodation | Self Catering | Wilderness | Route 62 | Western CapeHiking, tennis, squash, bowls, swimming, horse riding, fishing and bird watching can also be enjoyed and in addition to exotic species, large tracts of indigenous forest have been preserved.

The Outeniqua Choo – Tjoe
One of the remaining working steam trains left in the country and steam enthusiasts will be in their element when they take the scenis journey along the coast through South Africa’s own lake district.

The one way trip from George to Mossel Bay is a great half day outing and is a real treat for all.
